Post-Impressionism is my favorite movement, but most art after that loses my attention, hence the only partially finished minor in college. I think art went the way of philosophy and politics with everything deconstructing and nothing being built up.
Interesting is one word for it,simplistic is yet another and the description I use.
Personally I could care less about any particular period as it only reflects such a period and such art only represents the artists thoughts, not the population at large.Propaganda if you will so as to push a certain agenda or thought.
Neanderthal carvings in caves is just as impressive considering the surroundings of that period. The thought there; survival
I agree, the Fauves are interesting. I like the bright colors, but it can get too cartoonish for me.
My favorite artists are Van Gogh (a little crazy can make for a lot of interesting) and Turner. I like Turner's style and how he can balance sad stories with beautiful scenery.
My favorite modern artist would have to be Kandinsky, mostly because of his use of color.
Matisse and Monet do it for me, but I like Van Gogh as well. I also like Picasso and some of the cubist, not too abstract stuff.
My degree is in the sciences, not the arts, but I really enjoyed my humanities classes. I wish they taught humanities in middle school and high school. Our kids would be much better off.
