Is allowing newcomers to form criminal gangs and snuff the natives' traditional way of life a form of cultural outreach?
Europe is Dying
This saddens me, because I love Europe. I have lived there and traveled to many countries on the continent. This is what happens when a morally flaccid people can't sustain themselves by having enough children. They have to import troublemakers in the hopes that the noisome newcomers will sustain the social programs that the aging nation depends upon.
I hate to say it, but a country that becomes ashamed of its culture and unable to sustain itself has earned its decline...

I have pondered this since the 90's. I think I know why this is the case. Since WW2, who pays for Europe's defense? Defense is generally the largest part of a nation's budget. This requires engineers, manufacturing, and lots of hard work. The problem is, WE pay for Europe's defense. Without having to pay for defense, such money can be spent on apathy spreading social programs. There is no incentive to innovate because the attitude is that we will do that for them. Also, there is no need for a free press as we will protect them from any invasion. Therefore all the population gets most of it's news from state run media such as the BBC. What we need to do is pull out of NATO and make a serious adjust to the U.N. or pull out of that too (more on that on my blog in coming days). The leftists allowed open borders which allowed the descendants of the "Muslim Brotherhood" a.k.a Al-Qaeda to infiltrate Europe in sufficient numbers to be able to out vote others in just a few years. Sharia law is already being implemented in England. Another reason for Europe's fall into socialism (most republicans will want to kill me here) was the fall of the Berlin wall. That wall kept those dependent on the state on one side and those who support freedom and "western ideology" separated. Has anybody noticed that every European government took a hard left turn in the years after the wall fell. I am starting to think we should have left it up. So here are my opinions on what happened to Europe. It is a shame that so many Americans died to free Europe in the last 100 years only to see this as a result.
Andrew: You hit the nail on the head about defense spending. We're picking up the tab, which frees them to blow money on social programs. North Sea crude revenue is also paying for it.
I strongly disagree with you on the wall falling.
Poland, Czech Republic and other Eastern European countries are "freer" than their western cousins. They have been at the vanguard of opposition to the international global warming movement. They recognize communism for what it is, even if it is disguised.
Europe may have turned more left after the wall came down, but it ain't the fault of Lech Walesa and Vaclav Havel. They are champions of liberal democracy, free-market capitalism.
Please go review some history, and I say this with all due respect. I like you and I enjoy your blog.
A couple years ago, the wife and I went to mass in Stayton, Oregon where our former parish priest moved on to. We loved his homilies and wanted to see him again. He gave a humdinger that day, talking about the Islamization of Europe and how passive the Europeans are in resisting it. I was a little shocked because he never touched on this topic when he was at our parish. But the more I listened to him, the more I knew he was right. It's fascinating to read the history of Europe -- read about the Spanish Reconquista (the several centuries it took the Spanish to force out the Muslim invaders) and the Battles and sieges in Vienna in the 1500s and 1600s. Islam has been trying to subjugate Europe for most of the history of Islam. We're not allowed to talk about for fear of appearing racist or xenophobic, but the truth of history is there for anyone who wants to educate themselves. History is what it is -- the good, the bad and the ugly -- and it is often prologue to the future. History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme.
