Cardinal Roger Mahony wrote in a blog post, "I can't imagine Arizonans now reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques."
The president of the Hispanic Federation said the law "reminded me of Nazi Germany."
Cooler heads merely compared it to apartheid or 1960s-era civil-rights abuses. (Rich Lowry - RCP)
Well, Arizona passed a law that said its state agencies could not ignore federal immigration law, the way the federal government does.
Attack of the Demagogicrats
The screamers on the left are predicting a brown roundup at The OK Corral, and Al Sharpton is promising to bring his brand of bullhorn buffoonery to the southwest. A hitler behind every tree!
I recommend people actually read the law and find some trusted commentary on it before shooting off their mouths. Rich Lowry attempts to apply a cold compress of common sense to the inflamed area:
The Arizona law makes it a state crime for aliens not to have immigration documents on their person. This sounds draconian, except it's been a federal crime for more than half a century - U.S.C. 1304(e). Has the open-borders crowd forgotten that it calls illegal aliens "undocumented" for a reason? (Rich Lowry - RCP)
Here's one part I haven't heard the hysterical hyenas huff about:
A law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may not solely consider race, color or national origin in implementing the requirements of this subsection except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona Constitution.
A person is presumed to not be an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States if the person provides to the law enforcement officer or agency any of the following:
1. A valid Arizona driver license.
2. A valid Arizona nonoperating identification license.
3. A valid tribal enrollment card or other form of tribal identification.
4. If the entity requires proof of legal presence in the United States before issuance, any valid United States federal, state or local government issued identification.
Solution: Repeal the Federal Immigration Statutes
There's an easy way out of this, and the solution is well within the grasp of President Obama and his Democratic dominated house and senate:
Repeal the federal immigration law the Arizona laws was written to enforce. Repeal it. And the whole issue goes away.
Repeal the federal immigration law the Arizona laws was written to enforce. Repeal it. And the whole issue goes away.
If America is so damned up in arms in righteous anger over this law, the Democrats will win in a landslide this November, so do it, Demagogicrats! Repeal it!
That would also remove the absurd situation of a government making a mockery of itself by refusing to enforce its own laws, with millions of ignorant citizens and undocumented protesters egging on this lunacy.

"What is a father to do if, in 90 days, they can be stopped by any police officer and questioned ... when their family is at home and their kids in school?" said Elias Bermudez, the founder of Phoenix nonprofit Immigrants Without Borders. (Reuters)
How about gather up your family and go home, where you don't have to look over your shoulder for those white, angry, rightwing racists? While you're there, you can fill out a paper at the US Consulate like my grandparents did and come in the front door as a law abiding citizen.

YOU Raaacist! How dare you try to make me listen to your facts and logic. It makes my head hurt.
Texas is looking to adopt the AZ law! God lov'em both!
Awesome, GO TEXAS!
Right go back in line like the rest of us foreigner who have done it before. HIV testing, Syphilis testing, Fees, FOIA disclosure, background check, interviews, etc. Fair is fair for everyone. Apply the rules to all.
This is why the republican party pisses me off.
Now Charlie Crist wants to run as an independent. These politician all keep flip floppin'.
This is why Democrats are best policician, thought they have screw up ideas that only the crazy ones that follow them support them, at least they are all on the same page.
Chris Wallace asked Charlie Crist two times if he was running as indepedent and he kept dodging the question by bringing Regan principals. Leave Reagan alone the man is dead! RIP.
Here is the transcript:

Now Charlie Crist will destroy all the efforts made by the caucus in selecting Rubio.
the Republican party needs to go.
Special interest groups are behind Crist (no wonder why he raised millions more than Rubio)
Go TeaParty!
would u believe this insanity ..a govt who wont even enforce federal law to protect its own citizens!!!
Protect them from what???
The new laws in Arizona are unconstitutional.
If any of you support them, then I'm sorry, you have no principles at all. You just agree with whatever your party does.
Now CP is a constitutional scholar.
Please show us what part conflicts with the constitution, citing the article of the constitution it conflicts with, or get lost and stop wasting everybody's time!
This is the first I have heard about Texas. Awesome! Let's hope this has a domino effect.
And if the illegals are concerned, who cares?! They are breaking the law?. I am with you Silver, they can go to the American consulate and begin the process of becoming legal citizens. I have no problem with that at all.
Great post!
Thanks Leticia! It is a debased, decrepit government that will not enforce its own laws.
Mahony said that because conservatives are fleeing the Roman Catholic Church in droves over the liberal policies of the US Bishops Conference (I can barely stomach mass anymore, it gets so damned political sometimes).
Mexicans and Mexican-Americans are the largest growing population in the Catholic Church.
Sadly, the RC church will eventually achieve what it seeks ... complete and utter failure.
4th amendment. It is not reasonable to demand papers of someone b/c they look mexican.
These are nazi-like laws. In what other place could the people sue the police for not enforcing their laws strictly enough. It's ridiculous.
CP is right, it's probably unconstitutional... the Canadian Constitution I mean, after all...they might just be passing through on their way to our northern neighbor...who are we to interfere?
We ought to just pick'em up, drive north to Montana and drop them off at the Canadian border.
That way CP can learn the difference between 130,000 illegals and 13 million illegals...and then maybe he can stop talking out his ass and start talking from experience.

And for god's sake get off the Nazi Bullshit...Even Chris Matthews thinks it's "misplaced, inaccurate"

Yeah, asking for identification is the moral equivalent of genocide!!!
If he actually read the Arizona law:
http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf
He would realize that article 8 Section B requires "lawful contact" and "reasonable suspicion" which would meet the "probable cause" clause of the 4th amendment.
So instead of a left-wing propagandist shooting his mouth off without knowing WTF he was talking about, he might actually be able to rationally discuss the issue; rationale discussion being one of the primary prerequisites for a functional democracy.
Actually, on second thought...it would probably be compliant with the Canadian Constitution as well, since they don't seem to be as liberal with their immigration policies and enforcement as we are.
Cheers!

Oh...and to all you fellow Americans:
We don't need new laws, we just need to enforce the ones we already have.
and...OMG....Are Chris Matthews and I in agreement?
That's a first....ROFLMAO
~Finntann~
You are wasting out time, CP. It's obvious, as usual, you are talking out your ass about something you know nothing about.
Until you read the law and speak intelligently on it, I will ignore further comments from you as I would any common leftwing wackadoo.
As Finntann says, go read, Grasshopper:
http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf
"He would realize that article 8 Section B requires "lawful contact" and "reasonable suspicion" which would meet the "probable cause" clause of the 4th amendment."
Crazy Canuck- "4th amendment. It is not reasonable to demand papers of someone b/c they look mexican."
Really, is that what it says. Hard to believe that only Mexicans were identified!
Maybe we should start checking id's at the local ERs! Take care of immigration problem and health care problem at the same time!
C'mon Texas, who's next!
CP!! The Friend Idiot Liberal jerk from Canada. You probably better suited in Europe. I thought you disappeared but it would be boring without you being around and I like being bored.
The US should offer a free train trip for illlegals to Canada and San Francisco
That's not the amendment, that's what the amendment implies "what makes us right".
Also, although it says in the law that there has to be reasonablee suspicion, what could that possibly mean but "they look mexican".
How do you get experience with this? Stupid laws are stupid laws no matter what your experience.
maybe probable cause could simply be talking with a horrible canadian accent! This law is not just for illegals from the south!
Careful, WMUR, arguing with CP is a descent into illogical madness...
So what are you saying CP? Open borders? Not even the esteemed great white north is that liberal.
You say stupid laws...are you referring to the Arizona law or the federal law it seeks to enforce?
Honestly, I can agree with you on one point, illegal Mexican immigrants are not the problem. A federal government that ignores the will of the people (the law) in choosing which laws to enforce and which to not is the problem, and that is a Democrat and Republican problem. One party wants cheap votes, the other cheap labor, both sides are reprehensible.
Illegal immigrants are a problem. Absurd laws are not the solution. The federal laws allows police to ask anyone they want (with "reasonable suspicion") for their I.D. and other paper?
That's insane. The police can't just stop people in the streets for no or at best only some (indeterminately valid) good reason.
Canada is the best country in the world with regards to refugee immigrants. If America improves it record on that it would certainly help assure people that the people who are sent back are not being sent back to be tortured, killed, raped, etc... Nevermind, sending them back to die of hunger, etc...
These are ridiculous laws. You can sue the police for not enforcing them strictly enough! Jon Stewart made fun of it as suing the for police "neutrality" as opposed to brutality.
Is illegal immigration enough of a problem to set up unconstitutional and civil liberty defying laws?
If crime becomes a big enough problem should police be allowed to just throw anyone who looks like a criminal in jail? Should they be allowed to walk into people's homes and search for evidence of criminal activity?
WMUR, don't be silly. Obviously white Canadians are not visible minorities in America.
Again, how are you people for these laws? Have any of you read 1984?
I'm not comparing deporting illegal immigrants comparable to genocide, I'm comparing the laws enacted by Arizona to some of the less harsh laws in Nazi Germany.
Back then and there the police could ask people to prove they were not jewish. Is this really much different?
What is it that could make you suspicious that someone is an illegal immigrant other than race/ethnicity? Are they always looking over their shoulders? What else is there?
I'll agree it's a silly law... especially since nothing in the new law changes anything. The police already have the authority to stop you for "reasonable suspicion.
Silly to sue the cops? They are paid by our tax dollars, they aren't paid to pick and choose what laws they enforce.
From a legal perspective, is there any difference between a cop over looking illegal aliens and a cop overlooking a mafia drug runners? And remember, I said legal, not ethical difference.
One can easily be generous toward illegal immigrants when one only has @130,000... add two more zeroes buddy and see if it changes anything.
