“Silent” Immigration Raids

The Obama Administration is cracking down on illegal immigration by punishing those who hire them

The New York Times is boo hooing big bleeding heart tears over the now-unemployed illegal aliens, but I congratulate the Obama administration for having the courage to do this, and for doing it in the right way:

BREWSTER, Wash. — The Obama administration has replaced immigration raids at factories and farms with a quieter enforcement strategy: sending federal agents to scour companies’ records for illegal immigrant workers.
These  “silent raids” have resulted in...

... audits of employee files at more than 2,900 companies. The agency has levied a record $3 million in civil fines so far this year on businesses that hired unauthorized immigrants, according to official figures. Thousands of those workers have been fired, immigrant groups estimate.
Obama does something right for a change
This is the right approach befitting a humane, freedom loving nation.  It rightly places the punishment on unscrupulous employers while short-circuiting the hooting lefties who love shouting "NAZI!" every time an immigration enforcement officer does his job.

“Instead of hundreds of agents going after one company, now one agent can go after hundreds of companies,” said Mark K. Reed, president of Border Management Strategies, a consulting firm in Tucson that advises companies across the country on immigration law. “And there is no drama, no trauma, no families being torn apart, no handcuffs.”
Take away the jobs and the illegal aliens will eventually self-deport.  Meanwhile, raided businesses are now doing things the right way, filling out the forms and bringing in legal guest workers from Mexico and Jamaica.

I love this quote from one of the illegals who was bounced from her job:
“They are bringing people from outside,” Ms. Cervantes said, perplexed. “What will happen to those of us who are already here?”
Thousands of American trades people and unskilled workers have been asking the same question for years, Ms. Cervantes.

I agree that this is finally some good news with regard to the illegal immigration problem. I hope the administration continues in the pursuit of those employing illegals. I still can't fault AZ, though, for their efforts to solve some of the problem by enforcing the equivalent of federal law in their own state.

I am still concerned, though, that there is another amnesty planned for the near future. That would just encourage another flood of illegals, IMO.

It's good they are going after companies who hire them. One problem though, you go after the employer, employer fires them, sending them out around the country to find other work. Mean time, they are STILL in the country illegal and most likely will sponge off the country.
Doesn't solve sh*t unless the Feds kick them out, too.

It is about time! I am sorry for Ms. Cervantes, but if she wants to work here in the states, she needs to do it legally. Otherwise, she should take her complaints to her own country and government.

I know many want every last illegal tracked down and deported. In a perfect world...

Anyway, this is the next best thing. Remove the magnet.

If the government knows that the employees are illegal immigrants, then they know where they are, so why not get them and send them back where they came from? Why just punish the employers? It takes two to tango.

WOW!! Good job Barack!! :o)

Exactly, Silverfiddle, it's the magnet that's the problem, not necessarily the people who are just looking for a better life for themselves and their families, but welfare and entitlements are nearly as much at fault as the employers for luring them into breaking our immigration laws.

Good post Silver, and it's good, but then falls right into Obama's predisposition to hate business anyways.

Personally,I like seeing them physically removed and perp walked since liberals love seeing ours hauled away...otherwise they're just 'silent' numbers, and we know what the Obama peeps do with numbers. :(

It's something but i'm not happy til there's an electrified wall.

In my view, employers who hire illegal invaders should be held accountable -- and dearly.

My husband lost his full-time job due to illegals being hired more cheaply and without the employer having to shell out for health insurance.

AOW: Where the hell are the democrats, defenders of the people, when stuff like this happens to good folks like your husband?

My idea is to inform employers that they have six months to get rid of all illegal alien employees, and that if they do so they will not be subject to any legal action, but if they don't comply, their businesses will be shut down and they will be subject to criminal charges.

That would eliminate the incentive for illegal aliens, and give companies time to regroup, restructure, etc.

That's the only amnesty that I would be willing to support.

Silverfiddle,

The Dems have been nowhere to be found.

Now, the company that laid off my husband didn't WANT to do so. But financial realities forced the company into taking the steps required to stay afloat.

That said, if there weren't a pool of illegal invaders out there, my husband would have kept his job. He had 12 years with the company!

AOW: That is why I think that lady's question at the end is so ironic.

Yet the reporters didn't even think twice about it and failed to ask what about the good Americans whose jobs have been taken by illegals.
