Is Gays in the Military Really about Gay Marriage?

My opposition to gay marriage is a definitional one.  To Western Christendom, marriage has traditionally meant one man and one woman.  I support partnerships that deny gays none of the rights of married people save the name of the relationship.

The constitutional rights argument is specious
The military discriminates against women, old people, the handicapped, drug users and convicted criminals.  You surrender many rights when you put on a uniform, including the right to free speech, free assembly, and freedom from search and seizure.  You go where they tell you to go and do what they tell you to do.  You shut your pie hole when they tell you to, and you submit to random drug tests and room inspections on demand.

Repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell will not be the end, but the beginning.  I wonder if it isn't a Trojan horse for smuggling gay marriage inside the walls of Mainstream America.

Is Repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell Really About Gay Marriage?

Allow gays to serve openly, and the disparity in treatment between a traditional family and a gay partnership will be glaring.

Military members receive additional monetary, food, housing, moving and medical benefits to support spouses and dependents.  Boyfriends and girlfriends don't count.

This is significant since military people move frequently with the government picking up the tab.  A single person with a significant other receives reduced benefits and must pay out of pocket the cost of moving and housing and caring for the partner.

This can be a major factor when stationed at a remote location. If the significant other is even allowed there, she can't be housed, or seen at the clinic, or even go shopping in the military community. The military is a self-contained world, and military life is much harder when "family members" are shut out of the system.

Allowing gays to serve openly is only step one

The obvious disparity in benefits and treatment of significant others will spur a whole new debate on fairness and marriage and civil unions.  The US Military led the way on civil rights for people of color, and the homosexual lobby is hoping for a gay repeat.

Think this through all the way to the logical end, and Christianity, or any religion that teaches that homosexuality is wrong would now be in a very precarious position, with concepts like hate speech and discrimination hurled at it.

I support equal rights for all, to include the right of people to hold, teach and espouse traditional religious beliefs that do not conflict with our constitution.

Update:  I've posted quite a few articles on this subject.  I am a libertarian who believes in equality for all, and I am also a Christian who believes marriage is a life-long commitment between one man and one woman.  So it appears that I'm kinda stuck in that mushy middle I so often criticize.

Concerning gays in the military, I agree with combat veteran Uncle Jimbo:
“If I am lying by the road bleeding, I don’t care if the medic coming to save me is gay. I just hope he is one of those buff gay guys who are always in the gym so he can throw me over his shoulder and get me out of there.”

A Marketplace of Ideas

Free Speech Means Free Speech for All
Advocates for marijuana and condoms enter the public square and argue their cause, why not those arguing for abstinence and self-control?  The gay rights agenda marches on, carried by the media and popular culture outlets.  But Christians defending traditional marriage is out of bounds?

Islam good, Christianity Bad:  This is your brain on Liberalism
First NBC told Veggie Tales to tone down their Christian message, now we get a Muslim superhero show aimed at our kids.

We are continually told how wonderful Islam is, despite evidence world-wide to the contrary.  Stonings, floggings, beheadings, bombings.  Rapists go unpunished because the woman's testimony is worth less than the man's.  "Men" perform "honor killings" because their fragile manhood is destroyed when a daughter or sister looks at a boy.

People are called bigoted and hateful by apologist dhmimmis on the left when they point out the historical fact that Islam has a poor track record of coexistence with infidels.

Where's the rightwing theocracy?
Meanwhile, this same progressive crowd continues screaming about the religious right imposing a theocracy, despite a paucity of evidence.  Since the advent of the Moral Majority in the early 80's, every moral ill they stand against has increased, not decreased.  But the bigoted lefties stubbornly goose-step on, dutifully ignoring all evidence that contradicts their world view.

This is the problem with modern-day "liberalism." It isn't very liberal when dealing with issues that don't fit the dogma.  And for a crowd that loves shouting "science!" at all who disagree with them, they sure do a right studious job of ignoring the facts that don't fit.

America is a free marketplace of ideas
We are all free to speak, and others are free to listen or to ignore, but this doesn't satisfy the statist progressives. No. They want to use the power of the state to shut up those they disagree with, or at least demonize and marginalize their ideological opponents to avoid debating them.

Modern-day liberalism is an incoherent mess and resembles not at all the classical liberalism they stole the name from.

It's America and it was the 5th of May

1. It's not Mexican Independence Day (which is 16 September).

2. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday celebrated only in the Mexican state of Puebla and is not a national holiday in Mexico.

3. Cinco de Mayo celebrations started in America (California) in resistance to the French occupation of Mexico.

4. This is America.

5. The flag on top is our flag (If you're in Mexico feel free to reverse the placement).

6. If you are in America, you can display this flag any time you want, despite what some jackass high school assistant principal says.

Live Oak High School threatens to suspend 5 students for wearing the American flag, while hundreds sport the Mexican flag.

I think I can speak on behalf of Western Hero when I say we salute:
Dominic Maciel, Matthew Dariano, Clayton Howard, Daniel Galli, and Austin Carvalho

Way to go boys!!!

I might also point out that the first three are of American-Mexican heritage.

Personally, I would like to say that assistant principal Miguel Rodriguez can go pound sand, his lame excuse that wearing the flag put the five American boys in danger would seriously call into question his ability to properly supervise his school. If wearing the flag put the boys in danger, it is not the boys fault and he really needs to do something about the Mexican racists in his school.

I also look forward to his resignation, so that in abject shame he can go back to school and make up the class on American history and constitutional law that he obviously miserably failed.
